how to separate two edges in one vertex

hi everybody i'm new guy here, and i've just embarked on maya software

so i'm wondering if there any way to separate two edges in one vertex in 3D maya

by the way, i'm using maya 8.5

i don't know if i got u right, u want to disconnect one edge or insert a vertex to make two edges
thats will be in split polygon tool, just click once on the edge
to disconnect or detach, select vertex the detach component!
hope this is what they called coz i don't have the software now...

well simply
create your polygon then hold left click to get the hot menu and select edges from this menu
then make sure that you under polygons interface from the pull down menu which under file
then select edit mesh menu and split edge
now with your mouse click and drag on the edges you wanna split this will be the first node from the new edge and after this make another nod to complete the new edge with the same way
after click enter
