There are 2 different ways to zoom using GripTools:
- The best way, us to zoom using a joystick axis.
1) Click on the GripTag, and make sure the GripTools window is visible.
2) Assign one of your joystick's axes to the "Zoom" in GripTools, for example the separate "throttle slider"
is useful for this.
3) Press play, and see how it works.
- The other way, is to use joystick buttons for zoom.
1) Set the joystick-axis assignment for "Zoom" to "Off".
2) In the GripTools menu, click "Buttons", and select "Enable Joystick Buttons".
3) Now click the "Buttons" menu again, and select "Button Assignment".
4) Assign 2 buttons for zoom, by clicking on "Zoom in" and/or "Zoom out", and pressing a button on your joystick.
5) Press "Ok", and press play in Cinema, to see how it works.
Remember, both descriptions above for Zooming, only work for Camera-objects in Cinema 4D.
About good joysticks:
This is difficult to answer, because it depends on personal preference.
For example, a good joystick would be the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro. It has 4 analogue axes, and plenty of buttons.
It's relatively inexpensive, and it should be widely available in computer stores.
But there are lot's of other joysticks available that should work fine with GripTools.
I hope this answers your questions!
