i started with a zsphere model first because it gives even faces to start with and it makes it really easy to rought out the shapes
say for example you are drawing a figure its much easier to sketch out the major shapes then detailing stuff like the finges and such
you cant start the drawing with starting the fingers then the legs etc you must rough out the shape
after getting a good shape and good forms i do the retopology in 3d coat and i take it back in zbrush to sculpt on the clean model after everything is okay i uv it and soon will start working on the texture i hope this helps man
