Copying a material in the material editor 5-10 times in standalone mode can hang your 3ds maxTM application.
LTD and Discreet are working closely on this issue. When the issue is resolved, there will be a Discreet communication post on this site.
Workarounds
The only definite workaround is to disable Norton Anti-Virus. When you disable NAV, 3ds max should return from "hanging."
This defect is not reproducible when resources are local to the system (for example, when bitmaps are on the local system instead of a file server), nor can we reproduce it using DirectX 7.
