    Chain
In this tutorial you'll learn how to create a chain (as the one in the Links section).
Run 3dsMax, or Reset (File>Reset from the main menu). In the Left viewport create a torus.

Dont worry about percision. Go to the modify tab and change the Radius 1 value to 20, and Radius 2 value to 5. Now click the Uniform Scale tool, (Make sure the Torus is selcted, if it is it should have a white frame around it, if not click the Torus to select it) hover the pointer over the torus until the Blue(z) axis becomes yellow and drag down to squash the torus. Should look like this after u finish:

Click the Select and Move button. After you've clicked the Select and Move button right click it, in the dialogue set all values to 0, that should put the Torus in the middle of the world. With the Select and Move tool selected the Torus should have 3 arrows going out of it in three direction, hold down the Shift key on your keyboard, click the green arrow(Y) and drag right until it looks like this:

When its in place leave the mouse button. In the dialogue that appears set: Check the Copy radiobox, Number of Copies = 1. When you move, rotate or scale while holding the shift key you are actually making a copy of the object that you are manipulating, we'll see how we can use this powerful tool a bit later.
Now select the new Torus if its not already selected, click the Rotate button, the Torus now should be encircled by three cirlces (Red(X),Green(Y),Blue(Z)), hover the pointer over the circles until the Green(Y) one is selected, click and drag until the number in brackets above the circles shows 00,90,00, or your scene looks like this:

Now you have two links of the chain, but we we want a much longer one. Pick the the Move tool again, select both Toruses (You can click in one corner and drag to the other to create a selection window, or click one Torus, hold the Control key on your keyboard and click the other Torus while holding it). When both Toruses are selected and u have picked the Move tool, hold the Shift key, click the Green(Y) arrow and drag right until it looks like this:

Then leave the mouse key, and set the Number of copies value to 4.

Ta-da! Congrats, you have a chain. Using this copying technique you can create virtually infinite chains or series of other objects. Have fun :P
