wav is spelled wav
so it will not conflict with an a , so an an isn't needed

The thing is, I do pronounce swf as "Swafs" like "Dwarfs", and in this context it does not require an an, as matter of fact, it will be wrong to put "an" there.
This relative issue, is not as absolute as saying for example that annihilation is pronounced "Annihilation", there is no preference in that, it is absolutely incorrect.
And as far as my signature is concerned, it is completely a private matter (something you should have learnt by now from international forums), and if you find it offending to the point where you require an apology, while the meaning of it is completey unknown to anybody, something is not right.

absolutely not , swafs does not make sense IMHO ,so you select what you like to pronounce as a word and what not,
when a word of 3 sections like SWF then S W F , but wav can be wav , simply , it can be a one section
i didn't invent this out of my mind , it's common intuition ..
i don't consider your signature offensive , LOL , ... i was teasing you , not trying to be preachy ...

That's what I was trying to say, your preference is as relative as mine, so there is no "judgement" that can be called.
But realistically speaking, adobe does not agree with you:

The safe 8.3 rule in DOS applies only to the first 6 characters:
I.E: Dimension = DIMENS~1 not ~sion
