Jordan is Next
Last week, the Jordanian government announced severe economic measures and raised the price of fuel by more than 35% for some products. The move came at the start of the winter season, when the people are in most need of kerosene, propane gas and diesel for heating purposes. The severe economic measures intensified an uprising that had been shyly progressing over the past 16 months. Uprising in Jordan had in the past stopped short of accusing the King of Jordan directly of being the head of corruption and calling him to step down. The recent severe economic measures broke the last barrier between the nation and the king and demanded in widespread protests to down the royal regime. The chants, previously used in Egypt, Syria, Libya, Tunis, and Yemen have finally settled in Jordan “The people demand the fall of the regime – الشعب يريد اسقاط النظام “. The king was targeted in several slogans across the country as the head of the corruption, the cause behind the financial miseries of Jordan, and the one who gambles with the nations’ most precious resources.
The Prime Minister of Jordan explained that these measures are the lesser of two evils, the second one being the total bankruptcy of the country’s economy, which is dependent on loans from the World Bank and the IMF. The US department of state asserted the same reasoning that these measures are the lesser of two evils; The world bank has visited Jordan in the previous months and demanded the price increase so that Jordan can pay the bank the debt service fees and interet, before the world bank can release part of the loans to Jordan. Jordan had two governments before the current one headed by Dr. Nsour in the past 6 months. Both government refused to raise the prices and resigned. The government of Nsour had no choice but to raise the prices because the budget for next year is up for approval and the World Bank refuses to grant its mysterious loans unless the economic measures are instated immediately. The world bank, which is the main instrument used by the USA to interfere in the most intimate relations of a country has been known to be behind the economic woes of third world countries for the past 50 years. Nations like Jordan surrender their political will and the fate of their own people and governments at the time when they sign for the world bank loans. The world bank chooses the time and conditions when to stir political upheaval within its victim nations.
The world bank pressured Jordan into current upheaval at a time when the Arab world is raged and engulfed with revolutions and uprising demanding the fall of regimes and calling for new styles of government. The revolution in Syria had been ensuing for the last 20 months and is approaching a turning point, where the regime of Bashar is on the verge of a disastrous collapse. The uprising and upheaval in Jordan may have been stirred by the World Bank, and hence the US, to deprive Jordan from the ability to influence the direction of the revolution in Syria. The new conditions in Jordan paralleled the establishment of a new coalition backed by the US to lead Syria after the collapse of the Asad regime. The alternative for the coalition regime is a strong sentiment towards the establishment of an Islamic State in Syria. Jordan political movement, specially the one led by Hizb-ut-Tahrir in Jordan has been very active in support of Syrian revolution towards the establishment of Islamic State. The current upheaval in Jordan associated with the price hikes reduces the ability of mobilizing the masses in Jordan to support the Islamic outcome of the revolution in Syria. After all, the masses are up and demanding something more dear to them – food and energy!!
Would this schema prevail? I don’t think so. The uprising in Jordan broke the barrier of fear and tore the last veil covering the ugly face of all those in charge of the corruption and mischief in Jordan, including the royals. This is the main milestone for a real revolution in Jordan. As for Syria, the revolution on the ground is more determined than ever to produce a fruit of Islam, the state of Khilafah.
